Dr. Waksman has been a licensed psychologist specializing in the
assessment and treatment of attention deficit disorder (hyperactivity),
behavior disorders, learning disabilities, emotional or adjustment
problems and divorce/custody/marital issues for over 30 years.
He is licensed in Oregon and Washington, and holds Diplomate
Diplomas in medical psychotherapy from the American Board of
Medical Psychotherapists, and in psychopharmacology from the
Prescribing Psychologists’ Register. He is also a certified school
psychologist in both Oregon and Washington.
In addition to his
private practice, Dr. Waksman has been an associate professor of
counseling psychology and coordinator of the School Psychology
Program at Lewis and Clark College, a visiting professor of school
psychology at the University of Oregon, and a lecturer in child
psychology and psychopathology
at Portland State University. He is the author of the Waksman Social
Skills Curriculum, the Waksman Social Skills Rating Scale, the Portland
Problem Behavior Checklist-Revised, and other research articles in
the areas of clinical, counseling, and school psychology. Dr. Waksman
has conducted numerous workshops for mental health specialists, educators,
attorneys, and physicians, provided consultation to many schools
and agencies, and co-authored the guidelines on the identification
and provision of services for seriously emotionally disturbed students
for the Oregon State Department of Education. His approach is to
teach individuals the social, cognitive, and problem-solving skills
necessary to alleviate their problems and to enhance their lives
and relationships.
